New Project Ideas for winter break

There are a lot of things I want to do winter break. I usually want to do a lot of things on break and end up doing nothing but watching TV (which is weird since I barely watch it anyway), watching movies, watching YouTube, reading books, reading comics or manga..... you see where this is going. Anyway this break I want to actually do some of the ideas I come up with.

I want to:
  • Make a drawing for a celebration of Martin Luther King's 50th anniversary contest
  • Fix the wire sculpture Dance
  • Redo the Fantasy City perspective project from my Freshman Design 1 class
  • Do a colored version of the cross-contour self-portrait from Drawing 1
  • Make a smock to wear in painting class (I'm taking it in the spring)
  • Finish the my pinstripe blazer and matching pants ( I used to sew)
  • Finish my gold traditionally inspired Chinese dress jacket
That's it for big projects (ones that take longer two hours). I'm sure there is other stuff I can do to but I don't want to overwhelm myself, especially since I'll be working too.

So far I've:

  • Done some research for the King contest. Next is to do some more along with some sketches.
  • Used the light table at school to make copies of fantasy city and the cross-contour self-portrait
  •  Discovered most of my sewing supplies are missing or ruined
Anyway that's all for now.

I finished it! (For class anyway)

So I finished the drawings final.

So I'm not mad about it. In fact I like it a lot but it feels incomplete. So I'm going to add some swirly stuff like this to the light and background:

Eventually I'll used the light table at school to make a copy of each and add color. I might even make a middle piece. It was a good way to end the semester. I'm looking forward to Drawing and Composition 2 even though it's at 8am to 10:50am (-_-).

Change In Plans!

So I went to drawing class today with all my plans and my structural sketches. Here’s what happened:

1.       My choice was deemed “ too safe” to put it very nicely

2.       The piece we’re making has to be representational but it didn’t have to be realistic

3.       I was thinking too much

4.       I need to have more confidence in myself

5.       I should make what I want and not think about if I have the skills to do it or if I might fail because that’s how artist think. We don’t take no for an answer.

Believe it or not, all of that actually encouraged me greatly. So now I’m going to go for my original idea (which I didn’t blog) of using people in a fantasy style piece representing scripture. I already found and photographed one female model (an awesome psychology major I know and not just because she did this for me). After some much needed coffee and sketching, I have a good bit of it laid out. I did some research on flowers because model 1 will have flowers for hair instead of human looking hair and there will be some floating in the air. I also looked up how to draw light. Now not light and shadow light but light like this:

Model 1 will be sharing her light with others (as in Matthew 5:16 light). I’m excited about this. Now I just need two more models:  A female for a profile headshot, who will be looking at model 1’s light and a male hand and forearm, who will be reaching for model 1’s light.

Sidenote: My other research wasn't in vain. I still plans on doing a close up from one of the other photos. I also came up with an interesting to me idea of a giant version of one of the flower clusters on a space bridge that explodes with flower and beanie debris. Whole Beanies of course.

Subject Acquired

So over the Thanksgiving Holiday I decided on my subject matter for the Drawing final Project. I decided to do one scene from two different angles. I wanted it to have organic and non-organic components so I choose to use Diana (one of my Beanies) and place her in an organic setting. Below are my reference pictures I'll be using.
